For Art Toronto 2018 we decided to undertake a project specific to the fair—that we would not, or could not, accomplish in the space of a gallery. We did not want to replicate a previous presentation or follow the norms. This is a common dilemma for any gallery participating in a fair in their hometown.

Following three iterations of A Viewing Room, we are intent on presenting art in domestic environments. While our primary focus had been on paintings, we now shift towards a proposition for living with sculpture.

Our initial questions continue to serve as guide: How is public space distinct from private? Does a work of art function differently when viewed in domestic versus communal situations? How do design and domestic objects interact alongside artworks?

We have engaged this line of inquiry over the span of many months. As always, we began by working closely with gallery artists—trusting their material, intellectual, and spatial sensitivity. Next, we sourced images from a range of beautiful private rooms, from the attainable to the aspirational. Finally, in order to stimulate both conversation and resolution, we placed a range of sculptural works within these spaces digitally.*

Accordingly, this website augments our fair presentation.
